The fear that has arisen in India over the new wave of corona infections is an example of the extent to which the trend of political abuse of medical conditions has permeated the country. Isn’t it a pity that doctors’ organizations are divided about the extent to which there is a risk of a new wave of Corona in the country? Shortly after meeting with the Union health minister, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), a body of doctors in the country, warned last week that the country is at risk of another wave. Now the Organized Medicine Academic Guild (OMAG), a federation of 15 medical associations, has asked doctors and government agencies to accept India’s near-safe status. Omag has said, “The tendency to spread fear should be avoided so that people don’t ignore the warnings when the wolf is really coming.” All numbers and indications are in favor of what Omag has said.
A large part of the international and national experts believe that the corona virus has now weakened. Newer variants may be contagious but are not expected to cause an emergency. China is an example of this, where, despite the rapid increase in infections, the death rate has been very low and new infections are now falling. The situation in India is that 90 percent of the population has developed immunity against this virus through Covid infection or through vaccination. Therefore, the chance that a situation such as in 2020 or 2021 will occur is very small. Incidentally, organizations such as Omag also believe that caution is advised. In fact, caution is a permanent requirement, which must be constantly emphasized. But there is a difference between caution and panic. Nothing concrete can be said this time about the purpose for which the atmosphere of panic has been created. But there is no scientific basis for this, this can be said with almost certainty.
