Bombay, January 25. Actress Sara Ali Khan will soon play the role of a freedom fighter in her upcoming streaming movie Ae Watan Mere Watan. Touted to be inspired by true events, the movie will be Sara’s third streaming movie after Coolie No. 1 from 2020 and Arangi Re from 2021.
The makers of the movie shared the first-look video of Sara’s character from the movie. The video takes viewers to a bygone era where viewers watch Sara assemble a radio-like device in a dimly lit room by connecting vacuum tubes.
As she begins to speak on the radio, she shares her message of freedom with the entire nation until she is interrupted by incessant banging on the door. Talking about her role, Sara said, “I am very excited and honored to have been given the opportunity to be a part of such a film.
As an artist, and especially as an Indian, I am proud of it. I am able to portray a character that resonates with courage, strength and bravery. It is a great privilege to work with Kannan Iyer, Sir (Director) as he himself is so passionately and emotionally involved in this story.
It’s very challenging to play a character that is very different from anything I’ve done before.
The film is a thriller drama and tells the journey of a student in (then) Bombay, who becomes a freedom fighter. This fictional story is set against the background of the Quit India Movement in 1942.
The makers have also said that the film is not a biopic of Usha Mehta. Co-produced by Somen Mishra, produced by Dharmatik’s Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta, Ae Watan Mere Watan is co-written by Darab Farooqui and Kannan Iyer. Filming for the project is underway and the film will be streamed on Prime Video once it is ready.
