Hong Kong, January 10. The 16th edition of the Asian Film Awards will take place in Hong Kong on March 12. The Academy released the nomination list two months before the awards ceremony. According to this list, only two Indian films have been nominated for the Asian Film Awards this year. Director Mani Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvan 1 (PS-1) has been nominated in six categories, while director SS Rajamouli’s film RRR has been nominated in only two categories.
The Asian Film Awards Academy has provided this information by sharing a post on social media. The Academy tweeted: “The press conference of the 16th Asian Film Awards has just concluded successfully! The 16th Asian Film Awards will be held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum on March 12 (Sunday) at 7:30 pm. The nomination list for the 16th Asian Film Awards is released along with the announcement of the jury president.
According to the nomination list, Ponniyin Selvan 1 is nominated in the Best Picture category. In addition, Sreekar Prasad has also been nominated for Best Editing, Ravi Burman for Best Cinematography, AR Rahman for Best Music, Eka Lakhani for Best Costume Design and Thota Tharani for Best Production Design. Let me tell you, Ponniyin Selvan 1, made on a budget of 250 crores, collected 488.36 crores worldwide.
Srinivas Mohan has been nominated for Best Visual Effects and Ashwin Rajasekhar has been nominated for Best Sound for the film RRR. Let me tell you, after the Oscar ceremony, RRR has also taken its place in BAFTA 2023. RRR has been awarded a place in the Film Not in English Language category at BAFTA. At the same time, RRR’s song Natu-Natu is shortlisted for Best Music (Original Song) for Oscars.
RRR has made a revenue of 903.68 crores at the Indian box office while the film has collected 221.32 crores from overseas. With this, the total gross of the film has reached 1,125 crores. Talking about the run of the film in different languages, RRR has collected 428.27 crores in Telugu, 265.42 crores in Hindi, 58.48 crores in Tamil, 18.41 crores in Malayalam and 1.52 crores in Kannada.
