Number one Carlos Alcarez withdraws from Australian Open 2023



Sydney, 08 Dec. World number one Carlos Alcarez has pulled out of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, due to a right leg injury. The 19-year-old Alcarez, who became the youngest No. 1 player last year, will enter a Grand Slam for the first time in his career as the top seed. While I was excellent in the pre-season, I suddenly got injured in training. I have muscle tension in my right leg. I tried my best to get fit for the Australian Open but it didn’t happen. Now I will enter the Australian Open in 2024. After Alcarez’s exit, Casper Rudd, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic will have a chance to reach the top spot after the Australian Open on Monday. He had to withdraw from the quarterfinals of the Masters. Due to this injury, he also withdrew from the ATP Finals in Turin. On 12 September, Alcarez became the youngest world number one. In 2022, he had a 57–13 record. He lost to Matteo Berretini in the third round of the Australian Open last year.
