India wants to host Sudirman Cup and Junior World Championship


New Delhi, 23 January. The Badminton Association of India has written a letter to the world sports body saying that it is willing to host the Sudirman Cup and the Junior World Championship. India was supposed to host the mixed team championship in 2023, but the World Badminton Federation transferred the rights of the host. Suzhou, China had given the responsibility of hosting the world championship in 2026 to India, while Suzhou was to host this championship in 2021, but could not host it due to the worsening situation due to the Covid-19 in China. As the situation of Covid-19 in China has not yet improved, uncertainty has increased regarding the Sudirman Cup to be held from May 14 to 21. BAI General Secretary Sanjay Mishra said that India is willing to host the Sudirman Cup this year. In this regard, we have written to BWF and we are hopeful of getting a positive reply. In addition to this, Mishra said that India is also interested in organizing the Junior World Championship. We have also shown interest in organizing the Junior World Championship, he said. . Its hosting was entrusted to America but now it has withdrawn from it. India has shown interest but so far we have not received any response from BWF. “If we get to host the Sudirman Cup, maybe we will have to wait until the next cycle of the Junior World Championships,” Mishra said.
