Preparations are underway to decorate Delhi’s landmark building for the G-20 summit. In this, along with lighting and cleanliness, the surrounding roads will be brightened up. In connection with the events related to the conference, a high-level committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The progress of various works was reviewed here. In doing so, the LG inventoried the current situation at the site and surrounding areas by walking approximately 29 km. Instructions have been given to timely complete ongoing works of cleaning, repair and maintenance of roads, flyovers, heritage sites, markets and hotels in Delhi along with transportation, tourism and security arrangements.
The LG first visited the areas from ISBT, Hanuman Mandir, Salimgarh Fort, Red Fort, Outer Ring Road along Yamuna and Samadhi Khand. In doing so, he ordered crowd reduction and cleaning arrangements to be improved in the areas around Hanuman Temple and under Hanuman Setu Viaduct. The ASI was asked to thoroughly clean and repair the walls of the Salimgarh Fort and the bridge connecting it to the Red Fort. Railways was asked to repair and refurbish the railway bridge next to Salimgarh Fort.
Green is enlarged, outer ring becomes free of damage
In addition to cleaning and repairing footpaths and partitions, LG is continuously committed to promoting greenery. The concerned land and road maintenance agencies have been instructed to green and clean the outer ring road along Yamuna and surrounding areas.
Forts are illuminated, open sewers are cleaned
The LG is expected to hold the summit at ITPO Complex, Bhagwan Das Road, Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg, near India Gate. In view of this, the LG assessed the work of the traffic police and PWD for smooth movement. Cleaning of an open drain next to Purana Qila towards Bhairon Marg and ASI has been ordered to repair the fort and make lighting facilities there.
Rejuvenation will take place around hotels and markets
Saxena also visited Hyatt Hotel on Ring Road, Leela Hotel on Africa Avenue, Taj Hotel on Sardar Patel Marg and areas and roads around Dilli Haat-INA Market. After an inventory of the rejuvenation and renovation work being carried out there, asked to complete the work on time.
Instructions to end the traffic jam problem
While visiting the Qutub Institutional Area, Qutub Minar and Mehrauli Archaeological Park, the LG expressed displeasure and dismay at the clutter, overcrowding, neglect and derelict roads and walkways. He ordered the traffic police to investigate the possibility of making one-way traffic near the Qutub Minar access road so as to ease the traffic jam in the area.
The area near Qutub Minar will be developed for heritage walks
It was decided to link Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Qutub Minar Complex so that the whole area could be developed as a heritage walk. A stairwell in the area was intended to clear the accumulated silt and waste so that it could be revived. ASI will work in mission mode along with Delhi Urban Heritage Foundation and DDA to implement it. The historic Quli Khan Mazar and Kamali-Jamali Masjid are being cleaned and repaired in the Qutub complex.
