Councilors of the corporations will not face a shortage of funds for development and problem solving in their area. Councilors receive money from their chief, mayor, standing committee chair and leader of their party, as well as commissioner, deputy zone commissioner, ward committee chair, etc. MCD has not only provided funds for all these items, but has also provided the funds for many items increased.
The MCD has made provision of Rs 188 crore for 250 councilors under their heads. In this way, a councilor can get development work done at a cost of Rs 75 lakh through his head. Earlier, around 50 lakh rupees were available under this heading. On the other hand, Rs 1.25 crore has been allocated for the Mayor, Rs 1.50 crore for the Standing Committee Chairman, Rs 2.5 crore for the Leader of the House and Rs 70 lakh for the Leader of the Opposition. Apart from this, provision has been made of Rs 2 crore for the commissioner, Rs 50 lakh each for the zone deputy commissioner and the chairman of the ward committee. If desired, councilors from all these posts can also withdraw money. In fact, funds are arranged to help the councilors with this.
According to the MCD, many councilors’ wards are very large and face a lack of funding to get development work done in their wards. For this reason, arrangements have been made to help them with other matters. Apart from this, councilors will also be able to get money of lakhs of rupees through improvement of cleaning services, street lighting, improvement of roads, Swachh Bharat mission etc. Provision has been made for these items of about two hundred crore rupees. The MCD has also given a fund of Rs 2.5 crore for the heads of education, gardens, construction, health, sanitation and village committees. Council members will also be able to take money off their heads. At the same time, MCD has also decided to do development work through RWA. Under this head, he has arranged Rs a lakh for each department.
The mayor and the chairman of the standing committee are paid Rs 06 lakh for the hospitality of the guests.
The MCD has made provision for the hospitality of the guests who come to the offices, from the mayor to the chairmen of all committees and the leader of the House of Representatives and the leader of the opposition. A scheme of Rs.6 lakh each has been made for one year’s expenses for the office of the mayor and the chairman of the standing committee. Apart from this, the leader of the house can spend Rs 15,000 per month, deputy mayor and leader of the opposition can each spend Rs 10,000 for tea and water in their office. On the other hand, MCD will give five thousand rupees each for the expenses in the office of the vice-chairman of the standing committee and the chairman of all other committees.
Council members can also go on tour
The MCD has made arrangements in the budget to send council members on an excursion. A provision has been made of Rs 20 lakh to send him on an excursion. MCD sends councilors to observe the good plans of local bodies of various states, but due to the economic crisis of recent years, the three municipal corporations had stopped sending councilors on tour. Otherwise, no provision was made for this item.
