Delhi Roads: The roads of the capital will be beautiful, the works will start from April 1

From April 1, work will start to make the capital’s roads beautiful and world-class. In this regard, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a high-level review meeting on Saturday. In it, the chief minister said that the broken roads and potholes of PWD along with broken footpaths, median strip, plates, signage, electric poles, handrails and FOBs etc. will be repaired.

He said it would be more expensive to rent machines etc in the first year. About 4.5 thousand crore rupees are expected to be spent. After that, annual expenses will be around Rs 2,000 crore. The agency will receive a 10-year contract for maintenance. If something breaks, the company must repair it within 24 hours. Each road will be repaved twice in ten years.

Roads, footpaths, trees and plants will be washed three times a week along with daily machine cleaning and rubbish will be cleaned by deep scrubbing. Deep scrubbers, 150 tankers and sprayers and 100 mechanized sweepers are used. Likewise, 250 anti-smog guns and sprinklers will be used to wash minor roads and side trees of 250 wards of MCD. The water coming from Delhi Jal Board sewage treatment plant will be used to wash the roads.

Surveillance is provided by a vehicle equipped with a third party camera. If a shortcoming is found, the contractor will be fined. In ten days, all the proposals will be approved by the cabinet of the Delhi government and all work will start from April 1.

First work on 14 meter wide road

The government will first work on about 1400 km of roads wider than 45 feet (more than 18 meters wide). The chief minister said all PWD roads will be made beautiful. The work assignment for this will be done around March 20 and the work will start from April 1. The repairs will be completed in six months. A 10-year contract is concluded for subsequent repairs.

One machine in each department

The chief minister said one machine will be given in each district of Delhi. These 250 anti-smog guns and sprinklers will be used to wash small roads and trees on both sides of the road. For this, the agency receives a 10-year contract for washing sidewalks and roads and mechanical sweeping.
