Worker dies in open elevator, case registered for negligence

New Delhi. In the Kamla Market area, a heavy-weight worker was hit on the head while lowering heavy iron goods from the open elevator from the fourth floor. The injured Mukesh Raut (29) was rushed to LNJP Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Kamla Market Police Station has registered a case of death due to negligence and has launched an investigation. A preliminary investigation revealed that an open cast-iron lift was being used illegally in the building.
Originally from Bihar, according to the police, Mukesh lived with the family in DDA flat, in Ajmeri Gate area. In addition to his wife, there are three children in the family. He worked as a laborer in a private company at Ajmeri Gate for five years. About seven o’clock Friday night, he was loading bearings into the elevator and bringing them down from the fourth floor. Suddenly the elevator went down quickly and the luggage kept in it jumped and hit Mukesh on the head. Mukesh fainted. Immediately afterwards, company owner Anuj Kumar took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Deputy Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Sen said the elevator was sealed. The Jugaad elevator in the building was being used illegally. The workers have also said that the elevator was out of order for a long time.
