New Delhi. Delhi police on Friday objected to provisional bail for Umar Khalid for his sister’s wedding. The police told the court that if Khalid was released, he would spread misinformation on social media. It can also cause unrest in society.

Before Extra Session Judge Amitabh Rawat, the police presented their position on Khalid’s plea for provisional bail in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case. The court adjourned the hearing of the case until next week due to the unavailability of Special Prosecutor Amit Prasad. The police told the court that it has confirmed the occasion of the sister’s wedding with Khalid’s parents and the manager of the wedding venue. However, the police strongly opposed Khalid’s release. Khalid was arrested on September 13, 2020, he faces serious charges, including offenses under UAPA.

Police said the same court rejected Khalid’s regular bail application and the Supreme Court also rejected the appeal. Her parents are also able to make all necessary arrangements. It was also feared that Khalid could influence witnesses in the case if he were released for two weeks.
