The East District anti-vehicle theft department has exposed the interstate gang that stole more than 300 luxury cars. The police have arrested two thieves from the gang and three buyers of the vehicles. The police have taken 17 luxury cars and a scooty from their possession. The arrested suspects have been identified as Shoaib Malik, Rahis Mulla, Mohammad Rehan, Ashraf Sultan, residents of Meerut and Chand Miyan, resident of Kotla village in Mayur Vihar. Shoaib is a graduate of Meerut University. Delhi crime department was looking for Shoaib in two cases.
Police officials said that on December 9, 2022, the police team saw a car numbered Meghalaya parked in Mayur Vihar area. An investigation revealed that the car was stolen from Shakarpur. An investigation revealed that the car was purchased by Chand Miyan, a resident of Kotla village. The police arrested Chand Miyan. On his tip, the police caught his accomplice Ashraf Sultan, who stole Noida Sector-62’s car. Police found five stolen cars and a scooty from his possession.
After questioning Sultan, the police team caught Shoaib Malik, a resident of Meerut. Police found five vehicles from his possession. Shoaib said during the interrogation that he works with Rahis Mulla, who buys stolen vehicles. The police also arrested Rahis. On the tip, the police found five more cars. After questioning this, the police arrested Mohammad Rihan, who stole the car, from Meerut. Police found two cars from his possession. An investigation revealed that the car was stolen from Malviya Nagar and Lajpat Nagar.
Used to change engine and chassis numbers
An investigation revealed that after the car was stolen, the chassis and engine numbers were changed and then re-registered in other states. These people told that they have been buying and selling stolen cars from Delhi-NCR since 2020. More than 300 cars have been seized so far. The police team conducted raids in Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal and Punjab to recover the vehicles. Police officials said that except Chand Miyan, all suspects have already filed criminal cases against them.
