The Supreme Court refused to suspend the trial against PP Madhavan, private secretary of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, in the rape case. The court gave the victim time to present her case on Madhavan’s plea against the charges.

At the hearing before Judge Dinesh Kumar, lawyer Mamta Rani, who appeared before the prosecutor and the victim, said that based on all the facts and evidence, the court has filed 22 charges against the accused Madhavan on 14 September. He said his client has all the evidence and he should be given time to present his side of the challenge request. The court accepted his argument and set the hearing for April 25, giving time. Lawyer Mamta Rani countered that there was no reason to adjourn the hearing and that this would unnecessarily delay the hearing of the case.
