The Delhi High Court has ordered the Government of Delhi to issue a circular regarding non-disclosure of the identity of an underage girl undergoing medical termination of her pregnancy and her family. The court made it clear that the name of the victim may not be mentioned in the report of the Register of Medical Practitioners (RMP) and the police. Having said this, the court set the case for hearing on March 10.

Judge Pratibha M Singh took the lead noting that minors and their families can be forced to have abortions from unregistered and unqualified doctors, midwives and courts. The court notes that in the current situation, doctors are generally reluctant to terminate the pregnancy without disclosing the identity of the minor and her family and without reporting it to the police. Because of this circular had to be issued. The court is hearing a plea filed by a woman who wants to medically terminate the pregnancy of her 14-year-old girl without notifying the local police.
