Before the start of summer, a fire broke out in a low-floor bus belonging to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Suddenly, around noon on Sunday, smoke came out of scheduled bus number DL-1P-C 8774 at the Badli intersection.
Eyewitnesses immediately reported this. The bus was then completely engulfed in flames. As soon as the information was received, two fire trucks arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. However, no passenger or staff were injured in the incident. In the same month, another DTC non-AC low floor bus caught fire near Kanjhawala and the bus was gutted.
Following this incident, the DTC Employees Unity Union has raised the question of why there are repeated fire incidents in DTC buses. DTC and the Delhi government should think about this. Union Chairman Lalit Chowdhary and General Secretary Manoj Sharma claimed that bus maintenance scams are taking place.
Sometimes other local components are installed instead of the company. Many buses have expired. The union has raised the question of who and how issues fitness certificates to these buses. This should be investigated. This is playing with the lives of the people of Delhi. The union has demanded an investigation into the maintenance and proper supervision of the buses at all depots. Last year there were also summer fires in buses.
