Under the 2023-24 academic session at Delhi University, the admission process for foreign students in UG, PG, MPhil, PhD, Certificate and Certificate Diploma will start from next week. Foreign students only need to apply online. Soon there will also be guidelines for the admission of these students. While Indian students’ admission to DU will be based on the score of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), foreign students are not required to appear for CUET. Admission of these students is based on merit only. According to different courses, applications will be taken until April-May and July.

Joint Dean (Foreign Student Register), DU, Prof. dr. Amarjeev Lochan told that they are preparing to start the online application process for foreign students on March 5 or 6. Admission for foreign students is, as in previous years, based on merit. The admission schedule and guidelines will be published soon. The students of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) are given priority admission. He said that even after the Corona epidemic, the craze of foreign students to study in DU did not diminish. The number of people allowed here has increased over the past three years.

DU is also recognized abroad for its academic environment and courses, so the number of foreign students is increasing every year. In the 2020-21 academic session, more than 550 foreign students enrolled in various courses offered by DU. While in 2021-22 about 615 and in 2022-23 635 students were enrolled.

During the corona epidemic, fewer students enrolled here than in our neighboring countries Nepal and Afghanistan. Now our focus is on increasing the number of students from our neighboring countries. We will also contact embassies of different countries in India to attract students from all countries to DU. DU has a quota of five percent for foreign students for admission to departments and colleges and ten percent at the PhD level.

More students are enrolling from these countries

While students from every country get admission to DU, more students from some countries come here to study. These include countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Canada, Germany, Spain, UK, Tibet, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Russia, Korea, Nigeria, Sudan, Iraq, Ethiopia. In recent years, students from countries such as Mexico, the Netherlands and Laos have also taken admission.
