New Delhi, January 06. Meta-owned WhatsApp has rolled out proxy support for users around the world as millions of people in Iran and elsewhere are denied the right to communicate freely and privately. By selecting a proxy, they can connect to WhatsApp through servers set up by volunteers and organizations around the world dedicated to helping people communicate freely.
We’re making it easier for anyone to connect to WhatsApp through a proxy, said Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp. So when a connection to WhatsApp is blocked, people have the option to restore access.
The company said connecting through a proxy maintains WhatsApp’s high level of privacy and security.
Your private messages are still protected by end-to-end encryption, so they stay between you and the person you’re communicating with and aren’t visible to anyone in between, the blog post says. or meta.
The option is now available in the Settings menu for anyone using the latest version of WhatsApp.
