Pakistan captain Babar Azam, young England batsman Harry Brooke and veteran Australian left-hander Travis Head have been nominated for the December 2022 ICC Men’s Player of the Year award. Babur, who has won the award on two previous occasions (April 2021 and March 2022), is on course for a third after another superb month in the World Test Championship (WTC) series against England. In the four Tests he played in December 2022, he scored 523 runs at an average of 65.37, the most for his side in five of eight innings. There were many individual performances in England’s 3–0 series win in Pakistan, including 136 against England in Rawalpindi and 161 in the first Test against New Zealand in Karachi, but the most important contribution was Brook’s historic success. . In his second Test match so far, England’s youngsters set the stage for the rest of the series with a historic win of 153 and 87 runs in Rawalpindi. He completed a total of 468 runs at an average of 93.60 and was named Player of the Series and received his first nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award. On the other hand, Head started Australia’s domestic season by scoring 99 runs in the first Test against the West Indies and 175 runs in the second to win the series.
