In the traffic accident, 16 facial fractures, tongue split into two pieces, lacerated lips and fractured skull were reunited by doctors after hours of surgery. The patient’s condition is now stable. After the road accident, 20-year-old Sameer was even taken to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for treatment.

Dr. Bhim Singh Nanda, the hospital’s Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, said the patient was taken to hospital in critical condition after the cycling accident. In this accident there was a serious injury to the head and jaws. There were fractures in about 16 major bones in the face and head, along with dislocation of the temporomandibular joint. The bones of the mouth were crushed. The tongue was cut into two pieces. Considering the patient’s condition, a joint team of 10 doctors was formed. An artificial breathing tube was inserted as a life-saving measure to immediately resuscitate the patient. After the patient was stabilized, treatment was immediately started through multiple scans to determine the location of the injuries.

Dr. Nanda said all fractures were repaired without additional cuts on the patient’s facial skin brought in for surgery. Six plates and two dozen screws were used in this surgical procedure. Thereafter, her tongue and all other soft tissue injuries including the lower and upper lip, nose and eyelids were repaired. The patient’s condition is stable and he will be discharged soon.
